Internet Strategy, PowerPoint, presentation
Bye Bye Powerpoint November 24th, 2009
How many of us cringe when we’re stuck in yet another meeting with a Powerpoint (PPT) deck of text-heavy slides? Yes, I must admit, I’ve seen some presentations that kicked PPT up a notch, but they are few and far between. Many of us crank out the status quo PPT for many reasons – it’s easy, it’s familiar, it’s faster. Stop with the excuses! Let’s move the bar a little higher. After all, do you want to engage your audience and better sell your story?
Here at NavArts, we’re always trying to inject a little unexpected into our presentations. Whether we include video, images, demos, or links to sample websites, we try to tell the story in a compelling way. Presenting is often about educating, and most of us learn best when we’re engaged in the subject or the delivery.
Here’s just one tool you might want to try when what you have to say is too important to blend in with the rest of the world: Prezi.
It’s visualization and storytelling without slides. Imagine a blank canvas where you can drop images, video and text, then reposition and group them around your main points and overarching theme. You’re not limited to fitting everything on one slide. Rather, you can zoom out to show the big picture and then zoom in to discuss the details. Prezi gives you the ability to create stunning presentations and brings pleasure back into meetings.
It’s easy to learn and easy to use. I picked up the tool and taught myself how to use it within a day, and my presentation was created two days later. Give it a whirl.
