Digital Strategies for Associations
November 3rd, 2010
Use of Social Media tools (by organizations) can offer value for many reasons. For example:
- Provide additional avenues to marketing and sales
- Provide a method or opportunity to interact and engage with customers
- Stimulate or influence action
Many marketing departments, membership departments and customer service departments have seen an increased level of interaction with their users when they have implemented Social Media tools in a thoughtful and well-managed manner. I attended a Bisnow Digital Strategies for Associations breakfast last week and heard from many leaders across several not for profit organizations. They concluded that if Social Media was to be effective for organizations to achieve valuable interaction (with their members/customers ) and serve them more effectively, they should follow three critical practices:
- Listen
- Engage
- Influence
Last but certainly not least, another prevailing concept is that content is now married to engagement. Content is the vehicle with which you interact with your followers. In order to interact with people more intimately, create content that promotes sharing like experiences. Content must be relevant as well as valuable because it is what drives your customers/members to you.
