Integrated Solutions: Part 2 – Why User Experience Design is Important May 25th, 2010
User Experience Design (UXD) considers interaction flows, user research, usability, efficiency, visual design, navigation and technology. It incorporates aspects of human performance factors and usability and focuses on the interaction between people and computer systems and the design that makes this interaction effective, optimal and valuable.
At NavigationArts,
UXD = IA + Visual Design + Technology
We integrate our disciplines in the User Experience Design process to innovate unique and comprehensive user-centered solutions that support corporate objectives and goals through the online experience. We employ best-in-class technology and software development skills that deliver the user experience through rich front-end development, configuration of complex interaction functionality, and integration of enterprise applications and data
Our Integrated Solutions Team consists of the following disciplines:
Information Architecture (IA) – defines the proposed structure and layout of the site and the organization of content and functionality within that site. Foundations include: content strategy, clear workflow design, interaction flow design, user research and usability.
User Interface Design or Visual Design – creates the visual environment within which user-experience occurs. For an online user experience to be successful, it must occur within an aesthetically well-designed visual environment. That visual environment is the user interface. User Interface design is able to reconcile the competing demands of user needs, technical feasibility and business requirements to create a compelling and memorable experience that increases the value of brand.
Technology Experience –refers to the software design, application development and systems integration that must occur not only to support, facilitate, and implement the optimal user experience, but also to support those that author and maintain the content presented in those systems. Developers collaborate with Information Architects and Visual Designers to develop solutions that support key functionality in today’s online web experience. These include: Content Management Systems, Search, Search Engine Optimization, Web Analytics, Social Networking Platforms, Legacy Enterprise Integrations and more.
Our Information Architects, Visual Designers and Technologists work together with our clients to define the vision, mission and usability (read effectiveness) of our Web solutions. For this reason, I believe that our solutions are superior. Our value comes from enabling collaboration, partnering and integrated teams to provide solutions that are considerate of not only our clients’ needs but just as importantly, their user’s needs. This allows our clients to enjoy the benefits of the successful interactions and experiences they provide for their customers/users.
We know we have achieved success when our clients share with us that they have seen the following results:
- Increased traffic to their sites
- Increased sales and revenues (through e-channels)
- Decreased call volumes and page abandonment
- Positive feedback from customers/users
- Word of mouth recognition across social network platforms
Stay tuned for my next post in the series; “Project engagements, process, best practices and implementation.”
