Web Content Management, Web Development
Web Applications with Web Standards Front-end Development June 18th, 2009
Two years ago, I had the unique opportunity to contribute with some incredibly distinguished
industry names on a book about Web Standards-based Web development. The book, called Adapting to Web
Standards, is of course available from Amazon.com and other retailers … and some of it is available for free, online.
The book not only focuses on the challenges an organization might face related to implementing modern techniques in a complex and large environment, but covers a wide range of topics related to best practices. We discuss modern markup techniques with HTML/XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and modern techniques with JavaScript and Ajax.
For engineers and programmers, there are chapters that touch on Web application development using modern best practices. Additionally, we have a discussion around Web Content Management Systems (WCMS) and important considerations when implementing a CMS in a Web Standards environment. Finally, there’s several case studies, including an excellent one on AOL.com.
Of course I’m only so involved in the marketing and publishing efforts, so imagine my surprise when I found
a complete chapter of the book online for free over at PeachPit.com. The chapter is one I mostly wrote, focusing on Web applications and Content Management Systems.
Check it out, it’s free!
